Q:When I try to make my hair curly by blow-drying with a diffuser, sometimes it comes out perfectly curly and other times it's freaky frizzy. What gives?

A: I am a curly-hair specialist, especially working with Debra Messing on the TV show "Will & Grace." Don't use a blow dryer if you can help it; it works best to air-dry curly hair. If you'd like a softer look, use leave-in conditioner, and then let it dry naturally. If you'd like a more defined look, use a gel that's slightly infused with silicon to help tame frizz. What you might not know is that using a straightener on a daily basis really fries hair and changes the texture of the natural curl. To repair your hair, use curl-enhancing products, leave-in conditioners, and defining gels to cosmetically fill in damaged areas and coat the hair shaft. Also, use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week to get your hair's bounce and body back.
